When visiting countries, areas, regions, we always want to seek out the undiscovered, the less well known gems, the jewel in the crown if you will. Well, this week we went exploring and found a real treat for you.
On Saturday afternoon, basking in the warmth of the sun, there was only one place to be, Browns Bay, Islandmagee. One of the lesser known Bays, it is an area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity, you can float away and leave your woes behind you.
Located just 17 miles from the Corr's Corner Hotel, the journey is sensational in itself. Enroute you will pass by some of the most profound historical sites, including Carrickfergus Castle, discover rural Ireland and be privy to some of the most breathtaking views this country has to offer.
Upon arrival, don’t be fooled by the small beach, small in nature but gigantic with offering. Take the path to the right hand side of the beach and before you know it, the pavement turns into a single track, only devised by human foot. Sweeping branches aside, you will feel like an explorer and the adventure has just begun...Suddenly, you are on top of the world looking on to paradise. Nothing to disturb your thoughts but the lapping of waves and the occasional casting of a fisherman’s line, it is truly tranquil. Why not bring along a picnic and sit in the cusp of the hill, just taking it all in...serene and still this is an undiscovered gem, waiting to be found.
Upon descent, visit the small shop Steele’s who have been making their own ice cream since 1912, delicious! For the adventurous, you can also purchase some water sport gear here and take to the water. However if you are more of a spectator then Browns Bay is still a delight for the soul.
